Saltcairn · Location

A library cut into the cliff, where salt-crystal windows look onto black water.
The Archive has no doors that face the city. You enter by the drowned stairs at low tide, or by the brass lift if Rook Halden is on duty. Shelves follow the grain of the stone. Tablets rest in felt-lined niches, labeled in three calendars. When the sea is loud, the oldest tablets hum. Visitors may read any canon tablet. Drafts, private vows, and cracked shards stay in the lower gallery — Maera’s gallery — behind a gate that only opens for Compact clerks and people who have already given a true name.
